Realingo is a language-learning app developed and operated by Naoto Nishida, an individual developer. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and what happens to it. If you have any questions, email nawta1998@gmail.com.

What we collect and why

We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and the app shows no ads.
Firebase Analytics collection is permanently disabled in the production app. The separate Google Sign-In SDK may process the limited device and usage data described above for sign-in functionality and SDK analytics. Realingo does not use this data for advertising or cross-app tracking.
On-device processing
Free exercise generation runs on your device with a local vision model, and speech recognition for speaking exercises also runs on your device. When you use these, your photos and audio are not sent anywhere.
Helping with research (optional)
You can choose to share your learning data with us to help research into exercises generated from photos. This is off by default. You turn it on in Settings > Share learning data, and you can stop at any time from the same screen.
While it is on, these are sent to our servers and stored with your account identifier:
- The photo an exercise was made from, with location and other metadata removed before sending
- The generated exercise text and its correct answer
- Your answer, whether it was correct, and how long it took
Your name, email address, and audio recordings are never included. The data is used only for research into exercise quality — never for advertising, and never sold. Turning sharing off stops future uploads. Copies already provided remain stored; contact us by email if you want to request their removal.
While it is off, none of this leaves your device. Your answers and history are kept only on your phone.
Cloud AI processing (Premium)
Premium adds exercise generation through cloud AI. When you use it, the photo you selected is sent to the Google Gemini API for processing under Google's Gemini API terms. Realingo's own servers do not keep this content beyond what is needed to process your request. Answer scoring for writing and speaking exercises is handled the same way when it runs in the cloud.
Where data is stored
- Google Firebase (Firestore, Authentication, Functions, Storage): account information, subscription verification state, limited service diagnostics, and research data you explicitly choose to share.
Unless you turn on research sharing, your photos are not uploaded to our storage. They stay on your device, and are only sent to the cloud AI service at the moment you ask for a cloud generation.
Third-party services
The app relies on these services, each processing data under its own terms:
- Google Firebase (accounts, database, file storage)
- Google Sign-In (optional account sign-in)
- Google ML Kit Translate (on-device translation and limited SDK telemetry)
- Google Gemini API (cloud AI processing for Premium generation and answer scoring)
We do not sell your data.
Your choices and rights
You can stop future research sharing at any time in Settings. You can start an account-deletion request from inside the app under Profile > Request deletion, or email nawta1998@gmail.com for access and deletion requests. The in-app action records a pending request; it does not immediately delete cloud data. We verify identity and process the request manually, normally within 30 days, so that another account is never modified by mistake. Cloud data remains until processing is complete. We confirm completion using the verified email address when one is available; anonymous users should email support with their request so we can arrange confirmation.
Children
Realingo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app has no social features: there is no sharing between users, no messaging, and no chat.

If this policy changes, we will update this page and its "Last updated" date.
